The term fransaskois(e) is a contemporary term created to describe French-speaking residents of Saskatchewan. Fransaskois have always played an active role in local government and politics. L'Association catholique franco-canadienne was founded in Duck Lake in 1912 to protect and promote French language and cultural rights. In 1964 the name changed to l'Association culturelle franco-canadienne de la Saskatchewan. In June 1999 the name of the parent organization was officially changed to Assemblée communautaire fransaskoise. Saskatchewan Francophone Services
